Pro Cycling Tour (PCT) is the country's leading cycling marketing and event management company dedicated to the development of quality cycling events and programs in the United States. Based in the Philadelphia area (near Valley Forge), PCT creates and manages a variety of events and special programs for corporate sponsors, non-profit organizations and municipalities, including the Commerce Bank Triple Crown of Cycling and the American Eagle Outfitters Tour of Pennsylvania, presented by Highmark Healthy High 5®.
The Commerce Bank Triple Crown consists of international cycling road races and related special events in Allentown, Reading and Philadelphia from June 3 to 8. Cyclists from over 20 nations participate in these televised events that draw some 350,000 spectators throughout the week. The Philadelphia International Championship on June 8 th is the nation's biggest and longest running international cycling event in the nation.
The American Eagle Outfitters Tour of Pennsylvania presented by Highmark Healthy High 5®, is a U-25 cycling stage race that takes place from June 24 thru June 29, 2008, and has riders roughly following the historic Forbes Trail as part of the year-long celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the naming of Pittsburgh. At least 20, six-man, professional and elite amateur cycling squads from the U.S. and abroad will participate in this inaugural event.
Pro Cycling Tour is seeking Communications/Public Relations interns for the Spring of 2008.
Communications Team/Media Room Internship Description:
7-week*, non-paid position, requiring a minimum of 15-25 hours per week, starting May 12, 2008. Candidate will work in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment typical of most sports marketing and event production companies. Important qualifications include outstanding written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability, computer and software proficiency, self-starting and problem solving mentality. Knowledge and interest in cycling is helpful but not essential.
The candidate will assist with PCT Communications Department office responsibilities prior to race weeks and in media rooms in the Lehigh Valley, Reading, and Philadelphia for the Commerce Bank Triple Crown of Cycling. They will also work in mobile press rooms from June 24-30 th in stage cities that are part of the American Eagle Outfitters Tour of Pennsylvania, presented by Highmark Healthy High 5®. Candidate will work with members of the press from around the world, and will gain behind-the-scenes access to the sports media during a live event.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Help prepare press materials and press kits
· Assist with media placements in regional print media
· Follow-up on press releases
· Help gather facts and figures pertaining to cycling
· Gather audience research for cycling and cycling demographics
· Database entry, answer phones, collateral distribution
· Help keep website up to date and accurate
· Assist in setting up PR office at all Events (travel possible-reimbursable)
Qualified candidate should:
· be a team player who is enthusiastic and has a strong desire to learn
· have a strong academic record
· be familiar with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel and Word
· be an undergraduate, graduate student, of any major but interested in learning or assisting with sports marketing and/or public relations
