Army Spring Classic
April 5-6, 2008
The Bucknell cycling team traveled to the Army Spring Classic for its sixth weekend of the season. The weekend was the first of the season to pack in four events—a team time trial and circuit race on Saturday and an individual time trial and criterium Sunday.
Bucknell cyclists were eager to race Saturday morning, arriving first at Camp Buckner. The day started with a TTT on wet roads. The men's A team, comprised of senior Mike Chauner, sophomores Aaron Cravez and Aaron Meyers, and freshman Jeff Salvitti, secured 5 th place in their 15 mile race; senior Cara Jellison, junior Janine Hauber, and freshman Rebekah Morris got 3 rd place in the 7.5 mile women's B race.
Luckily, the sun came out midmorning, warming things up and drying up the roads for the challenging circuit race. A two-mile loop featuring a steep climb, fast descent, a windy flat, and an uphill finish made for exciting races. Salvitti and Chauner put in solid performances, placing 6 th and 15 th respectively in men's A. Meyers also garnered a sixth place in the men's B race.
Sunday started with a grueling 2.5 mile hill climb ITT at Westpoint. Freshman Kevin Curran placed 14 th out of 46 in men's C. The opening hill would soon become familiar, because it was climbed repeatedly in the 1 km criterium, which again featured an uphill finish. In large field sprints for the finish, Curran placed 5 th in men's C and Meyers 6 th in men's B. The men's A field couldn't catch a six-man breakaway but Chauner and Salvitti finished well with 12 th and 15 th respectively.
The team will travel next to Boston where Salvitti and Chauner will continue their quest towards nationals. Salvitti is currently ranked 11 th in division 2 men's A standings, and Chauner, who made his season-debut this weekend after knee surgery, is ranked 23 rd . Others will seek to move up the ranks of their respective categories. Curran is currently 1 st in division 2 and 4 th in overall standings for men's C.
Penn State Weekend

Philadelphia Weekend
March 7-8, 2008-Bucknell Cycling's second race weekend brought miserable weather, but unstoppable success. The Phoenixville Fury Road Race, feared for two sizable climbs, was transformed into a technical downtown criterium due to dangerous rain and flooding. On Sunday, the team time trial and Philly Flyer circuit race continued in dry but windy conditions. Sunday's races were help in historical Fairmount Park along the Schukyll River. Each year, this weekend is a joint weekend between Easter and Atlantic Conferences, which brings large field sizes and great competition.
