December 11, 2007 - A New Team for 2008
Bucknell Cycling has changed shape tremendously with the graduation of many valuable seniors. Despite the loss, the new leaders are excited to maintain the competitive prowess of last year's team. As usual, the fall and winter are working times for the team, both on our bikes, in the classroom, and for the organization of the team. Bucknell Cycling's newly elected officers have been dedicated cyclists, working their way through the categories in previous years. This year's officers are:
President: Matt Cocola (‘09)
Vice President: Jeff Boehmer ('09)
Secretary: Margaret Hartman ('09)
Treasurer: Aaron Cravez ('10)
The fact that none of the officers had cycling experience before coming to Bucknell illustrates how we do our best to provide an environment that will develop new members into the best riders of the conference. Notably, freshman Rebekah Morris and Kevin Curran have been working hard since the beginning of the semester to ensure they will be ready for the season. We already notice huge improvements in their attitude, confidence, and overall skill on their bikes. Rebekah has also joined what is a growing women's team of 6 members, led by Junior, Margaret Hartman.
The elite end of Bucknell Cycling is still in tact as well. Freshman Jeff Salvitti and Senior Mike Chauner have been training to have command over the top category of the ECCC. We have been very fortunate to acquire Jeff, who already has an extensive experience with road racing. In addition, Sophomore Aaron Meyers returned from the summer with excellent racing and training skills that will benefit him greatly this year.
The winter in Lewisburg will make or break successful training for many members. Die-hards brave temperatures in the 20s to escape the monotony of riding on a trainer. We cannot wait for the weather to improve and for the season to begin. The 2008 race schedule has been decided and will be posted on the ECCC website . For now, we are putting in the miles and trying to stay warm.
Keep riding and stay posted for updates!

------------------ In other news, Kyle Friis ('09), a strong men's B rider and notorious glutton for punishment, competed in November's Steamtown Marathon in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Amazingly, he finished in a new PR of 2:50:22, averaging around 6:30 per mile. Congratulations Kyle!
